On November\n4, 2020, the students of the two classes of the 6th grade were introduced to\nthe delicious acquaintance with Kanelbullar, a traditional pastry of Sweden, one of\nthe countries participating in the Erasmus + program. Kanelbullar are dough\nrolls with cinnamon and brown sugar. They baked them in the school neighborhood\noven and then tried them. They were very tasty. When they tested them, they\nused all five senses and recorded their observations with the help of the\nfollowing key:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STUDENT CRITICISM FOR “KANELBULLAR” BASED ON THE ABOVE OBSERVATION KEY<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On\nWednesday, November 4th<\/sup> 2020, we made a traditional Swedish sweet in\nour classroom, \u201cthe Kanelbullar\u201d. It was baked in paper cups. We enjoyed the\npreparation and the cooking of the above recipe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This sweet looks <\/strong>very smooth. It has pearl sugar on its top. It has a strong smell <\/strong>of fresh butter. It tastes<\/strong> sweet. We like the characteristic \u201caroma\u201d of cinnamon. When you bite it you can hear its crispy sound<\/strong>. Its texture<\/strong> is very soft. It\u2019s so tasty!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MOROTSSOPPA<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the actions that has been undertaken in the\ncontext of implementation of the approved Erasmus+ programme \u2018Healthy Learners\nin a Sustainable Society\u2019 was Spanish partner\u2019s proposal on the dietary habits\namong participant countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this context the fifth class of the 13th Primary\nschool in Kalamata, Greece prepared and cooked the\ntraditional Swedish recipe Morrotssoppa (carrot soup).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday 9th February 2021, two pupil groups of the\nfifth class and their teachers Eleni Vasilopoulou and Panagiotis Kiritsis\nvisited the city\u2019s open market and bought <\/p>\n\n\n\n

all the ingredients for the recipe. During the visit,\npupils had the chance to look, feel, smell the variety of fruit and vegetables,\nlisten to the sounds of the people in the open market and notice the different\nkinds of small shops surrounding the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recipe served five people so pupils were challenged to use what they know about proportionality and multiplying by fractions to calculate quantities for different numbers of servings. All the ingredients were weighed and paid by pupils in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a second step, on Friday, February 12th the same\ngroups of pupils cooked the Swedish recipe Morrotsoppa (carrot soup). First,\nthey read the recipe carefully and <\/p>\n\n\n\n

discussed over the ingredients for some were unknown to them. Then they washed, cut and grated the vegetables applying the appropriate hygiene measures and they used the cutting tools skillfully and with great care. They also made all the necessary changes to adjust the proportional quantities to a larger number of servings needed. Finally, when the soup was ready the pupils experienced the colour and the smell of the soup and tasted their cooking result. The whole experience had a great appeal to pupils by actually involving them in an experiential way of learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, February 17th\n2021, an online meeting was held on the subject ”Sustainable Diet”. The\nparticipants were the fifth grade pupils (E1 and E2) of our school and their teachers,\nEleni Vasilopoulou, Panagiotis Kyritsis, Olga Stefanopoulou (ICT teacher),\nVasiliki Mourdoukouta (English teacher) and Ioanna Resvani ( Deputy\nDirector of Environmental Educational Centre in Kalamata).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The particular action that\nwas undertaken in the context of implementation of the approved Erasmus+\nprogramme \u201cHealthy Learners in a Sustainable Society\u201d in which our school\nparticipates, follows on the previous action of the preparation of a\ntraditional Swedish recipe (Morotssoppa- carrot soup) on Friday, February 12th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the online meeting with the Environmental Educational Centre, pupils processed the acquired knowledge gained through experiential learning during the recipe preparation and discussed over the food ingredients and their nutrients that are necessary for a healthy and balanced diet. They were also acquainted with the different food ingredients and their interrelation in the process of adopting healthy dietary habits. Pupils also familiarize themselves with terms such as \u201cfood kilometres\u201d and \u201cenvironmental footprint\u201d and understand that the use of local products and ingredients for food preparation is environmentally friendly. They also made suggestions of how particular ingredients that create an environmental footprint can be replaced by local products to diminish the effect. The whole action helped pupils to practise and increase mindfulness in consuming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CONTINUATION OF TELECONFERENCES OF 13th PRIMARY SCHOOL AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATIONAL CENTRE IN KALAMATA<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, February 26th, 2021 another teleconference meeting was held on the subject \u2018Sustainable Nutrition\u2019. The participants were the sixth grade pupils of our school and their teachers Maria Zafiropoulou, Aggeliki Politopoulou, Olga Stefanopoulou (ICT teacher) and Doranthi Kyriopoulou (teacher of parallel support to pupils with learning disabilities). The particular action was undertaken in the context of implementation of the approved Erasmus+ project  \u201cHealthy learners in a Sustainable Society\u201d in which our school participates. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pupils through the particular actions experienced taste acquaintance\nwith traditional food of different countries, learned to single out food\u2019s\nhealthy ingredients and to adopt healthy nutritional behaviors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current teleconference meeting follows on a series of actions starting in October, 2020, when pupils prepared and tasted a traditional Swedish dessert named \u2018Kanelbullar\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to healthy diet acquaintance, pupils of different language  backgrounds with the assistance of their teacher Popi Kazantzidou who supports them providing additional language lessons, constructed a three dimensional pyramid that depicts a multidimensional approach of healthy eating (eating habits, environmental behaviors, road traffic rules e.t.c). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The previous actions motivated pupils to express their will to plant a vegetable garden in school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The teleconference meeting was directly related to the issues described\npreviously. During the meeting, Ioanna Ravani (Deputy Director of Environmental\nEducational Centre in Kalamata) presented to pupils the food ingredients that\nare healthy for a balanced diet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were also acquainted with the different food ingredients and their\ninterrelation in the process of adopting healthy dietary habits based on the\nprinciples of sustainable nutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With regard to the idea of planting a\nvegetable garden in school, pupils understood how choosing and consuming\nseasonal fruit and vegetables can have a positive impact in their health\nand natural environment as well. So they decided to plant seasonal fruit\nand vegetables that leave a smaller ecological footprint to the\nenvironment in relation to out of season fruit and vegetables. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The whole experience encouraged\npupils to become more aware and active consumers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOW WOULD A \u201cCOVID MUSEUM\u201d BE?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A DISCUSSION AMONG 13th<\/sup> PRIMARY SCHOOL OF KALAMATA AND THE EPHORATE OF ANTIQUITIES OF MESSENIA <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 13th<\/sup>\nPrimary school of\n Kalamata started a cycle\nof teleconferences with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Messenia on Friday\n(5\/3\/2021) on the purpose to sensitize pupils on the role of museums as a\ndifferent educational environment and to help them experience the evolution of\nhuman history and cultural heritage. The main question of the activity was how\na \u201cCOVID-19 MUSEUM\u2019\u2019 would be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pupils were\nintroduced on the different kinds of museums, the difference between\ncollections and exhibitions, the meaning of an exhibit, the framework in which\nmuseums operate and the services workers provide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within this\nframework and taking into consideration the challenging times of the Covid-19\npandemic teachers and pupils examined the possibility of creating a future\nexhibition of everyday objects used during the pandemic period. For example,\ncould a protection face mask be an exhibit in the future? How could the\neducational community and future generations be benefited from keeping the\nmemories during the pandemic period alive?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current\nteleconference and the perspective of creating an exhibition for a \u201cCOVID-19\nMUSEUM\u2019\u2019 is related to the approved Erasmus+ \nProject on the theme:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHealthy\nLearners in a Sustainable Society\u2019\u2019 in which the 13th<\/sup> Primary school\nof Kalamata participates along with 5 more European countries. So the above\nidea of creating a \u201cCOVID-19 MUSEUM\u2019\u2019 could be worked and developed\ninternationally through the Internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On behalf\nof the Ephorate of Antiquities of Messenia, Mrs Katerina Tzamourani coordinates\nthe activity and guides the pupils.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pupils of\nthe 5th<\/sup> and 6th<\/sup> grade participated in the teleconference\nalong with their teachers: Eleni Vasilopoulou, Maria Zafeiropoulou, Doranthi\nkyriopoulou, Panagiotis Kyritsis, Kostas Margariris, Vaso Mourdoukouta,\nDimitris Sarris and Olga Stefanopoulou (in alphabetical order).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Until the\nnext teleconference pupils will take action and will explore further the role\nof museums through the site of the Archaeological Museum of Messenia in order\nto design their own exhibition of a Covid-19 museum.
